Your Suggestions - Y Cwad (The Quad)

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. This month we are focussing on some of the suggestions we have received for Y Cwad.

"I think that the computer area should be for work and not to be used for social networking sites."
LRC computers are open access and while we accept that some students may be visiting social networking sites for personal use, we also recognise that many students may be using these tools to aid their study. Some students use social media to keep in contact with their tutors and fellow students or to participate in a group project, for example. It is often difficult to assess how computers are being used without invading students' individual privacy.

"More colour, e.g. pictures"
The LRC has recently introduced new signage and artwork in Y Cwad with the help of a professional signwriter, and is currently investigating the possibility of introducing artwork to the area.

"The noise level in the study / computer area is really distracting"
The main area of Y Cwad is designed to be a social learning space. We would recommend students try using the individual study places upstairs in the Library for quiet study, or one of the study rooms in Y Cwad. Although designed for group study, the study rooms can also be used for quiet study and can either be booked or used when not reserved by other students.

Eich Awgrymiadau - Y Cwad

Diolch i bawb am eich awgrymiadau. Y mis hwn rydym yn canolbwyntio ar rai o’r awgrymiadau sydd wedi dod i law ar gyfer y Cwad.

“Yn fy marn i dylai ardal y cyfrifiaduron fod ar gyfer gwaith ac nid ar gyfer gwefannau rhyngweithio cymdeithasol.”
Mae cyfrifiaduron y CAD ar gael i bawb, ac rydym yn derbyn efallai fod rhai myfyrwyr yn ymweld â gwefannau rhyngweithio cymdeithasol at eu defnydd personol, ond rydym hefyd yn cydnabod efallai fod llawer o fyfyrwyr yn defnyddio’r offer hyn yn gymorth astudio. Bydd rhai myfyrwyr yn defnyddio cyfryngau cymdeithasol i gysylltu â'u tiwtoriaid a'u cyd-fyfyrwyr, neu i gymryd rhan mewn prosiect grÿp, er enghraifft. Yn aml mae’n anodd asesu sut mae cyfrifiaduron yn cael eu defnyddio heb amharu ar breifatrwydd myfyrwyr fel unigolion.

“Mwy o liw, e.e. lluniau”
Yn ddiweddar mae’r CAD wedi cyflwyno arwyddion a gwaith celf newydd yn Y Cwad gyda help gwneuthurwr arwyddion proffesiynol, ac ar hyn o bryd mae'n ymchwilio i'r posibilrwydd o gyflwyno gwaith celf i'r ardal.

“Mae lefel y sÿn yn yr ardal astudio / cyfrifiaduron yn torri ar eich traws yn fawr”
Cynlluniwyd prif ardal Y Cwad i fod yn ardal dysgu cymdeithasol. Byddem yn argymell myfyrwyr i roi cynnig ar ddefnyddio'r lleoedd astudio unigol lan lofft yn y Llyfrgell ar gyfer astudio tawel, neu un o'r ystafelloedd astudio yn Y Cwad. Er eu bod wedi’u cynllunio i grwpiau astudio ynddynt, mae’n bosibl defnyddio’r ystafelloedd astudio ar gyfer astudio tawel hefyd, a gallwch chi eu harchebu, neu’u defnyddio pan nad yw myfyrwyr eraill wedi’u cadw.

The Census is coming!

As Census.ac.uk , part of the ESRC's Census Programme, researchers can get a one-stop shop registration for aggregate statistics, microdata, interaction data, digitised boundary data and longitudinal datasets. The programme currently supports 1971 - 2001 data, but hopes to provide access to data from the 2011 Census once it has been released by the Government's statistical agencies.
